With high gas prices, it’s impossible for mobile groomers to profit-RIGHT?

WRONG! Let’s look at it rationally and you’ll see why mobile groomers continue to enjoy “putting their dreams in motion” every day.

First of all, when you compute the fuel costs per pet groomed (which is the only way to look at it) the current spike in gasoline prices have only increased about ONE DOLLAR per pet groomed! And that is calculated using the highest average gas price on record (March 16, 2008) and comparing it to the average price one year ago. That $1.00 increase includes driving to the pet’s house too.

Second, mobile groomers weren’t going out of business last year because of gas prices and they certainly aren’t going out of business now. In fact, that increase amounts to only a 1.72% increase in the percentage gasoline takes from the total groom fee! Gas at these current prices accounts for less than 8% of the total groom fee. All in all, gas accounts for only $4.65 per pet groomed.

Next, one of the silver linings in this entire gas price increase hubbub is the fact that many mobile groomers are giving themselves a long, long overdue PAY RAISE! Many have not raised their prices for a long time and are taking this opportunity to do so. Finally they have an opportunity to earn what they’re worth and that is a huge blessing for many!

Finally, the higher gas prices have caused a spike in pet owner demand for mobile grooming! That’s right, more demand on top of the wild demand we already had in the mobile grooming industry! Pet owners don’t like it when they fill their tank either. Taking Fifi and Fido to the shop, then back home, then back to pick them up, then back home again is viewed by a lot of pet owners as a waste of gas…so they’re calling mobile groomers.
