Biggest Mistakes Mobile Groomers Make

We know launching a mobile business is a big step and there are many things to consider as you set yourself up for success in the long run. At Wag’n Tails, our goal is to be your partner in going mobile, providing service and support to help your business thrive.

If you’ve ever wondered what you should avoid doing when launching a mobile business, you’re in luck. Here are some of the biggest mistakes groomers make when going mobile.

Mistake 1 – Pricing Too Low

  • Don’t undersell your skill set and services!
  • Mobile groomers provide a highly technical, convenient service that should be priced accordingly.
  • Pricing WILL feel high compared to brick and mortar prices, and that’s okay. If you try to compete with B&M pricing, your business will not survive.

Mistake 2 – Service Area Too Large

  • You don’t have to overextend yourself driving across multiple towns each day.
  • Keep your service area small and manageable to avoid delays, high fuel costs, and burnout.

Mistake 3 – Failure to Implement Re-Bookings

  • Mobile grooming businesses are most successful when the majority of customers are on a regular schedule.
  • Your goal should be to book clients out for the whole year. I.e., Fluffy the doodle is scheduled for an appointment every 6 weeks for the entire 2026 calendar year.
  • A consistent, recurring schedule gives groomers peace of mind.
  • Pets are more comfortable being groomed when they get it done consistently.
  • Dogs on a recurring schedule get groomed faster because they don’t get as matted, and don’t need as much work done.

Mistake 4 – Not Implementing Firm Boundaries

  • Boundaries help prevent burnout, increase professionalism, and reduce emotional fatigue.
  • Groomers should be sure to remain firm in their pricing, scheduling and rules so they are not are not taken advantage of.
